I understand how important early identification and support are when it comes to your child’s communication needs. Whether your child is struggling with speech sounds, language development, or social communication, knowing where to turn for help can make a big difference. Here’s how families in Murrieta and greater Riverside County can access support and assessments—both through their local school district and the Inland Regional Center.
🏫 School-Based Speech Assessments
If you suspect that your child may need speech or language support, one of the first steps you can take is to contact your local school district. In Murrieta, this means contacting the Murrieta Valley Unified School District’s Special Education Office. Every child has the right to a free assessment if there are suspected needs in the areas of speech, language, or learning under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).
Once the assessment is complete, the team will determine if your child qualifies for services and develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) if appropriate.

Inland Regional Center: Services Beyond the School
In addition to school-based services, some families may benefit from applying for services through the Inland Regional Center (IRC). This organization supports individuals across Riverside and San Bernardino counties who may have qualifying developmental disabilities.
IRC provides services from birth through adulthood, including evaluations, early intervention programs, case management, respite care, and funding for therapies. If your child has or is suspected to have a lifelong developmental disability such as autism, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, or epilepsy, they may be eligible for services—regardless of educational eligibility.
Families sometimes pursue IRC services in addition to school-based services, especially if:
Their child needs more support than what’s offered at school/clinic.
They’re seeking coordination of care across home and community.
They want services that continue beyond the school environment or during school breaks.
